First Brown County bike ride a success

“Great inaugural event.”

“Well-stocked rest stops.”

These were just a couple of the many positive comments received from riders who participated in the Heart of Texas Cyclists 100K in Bangs, TX, on Saturday, July 30, 2016.StartingLine

Over 68 riders from all over the state, in addition to one rider from Denver, Colorado, participated in rides with distances of 35K, 60K, and 100K.

There were a few hiccups along the way in getting the ride started. Volunteers went out on Friday to prepare rest stop locations and to mark the turns along the routes.

It was discovered that a section of paved county road was recently covered in loose gravel. A couple riding tandem lost control on the gravel and fell, but no serious injuries were reported, and they finished the 60K without incident after that.

One rider got off-course on the 60K ride, but ended up finishing with a few extra miles.

Many positive comments were received about the ride and the organization. One comment heard frequently was electronic timing in the future, which may happen in future events.
